Firm Overview

Experienced Attorney Serving Disabled Veterans

If you are a person who is facing physical or mental disabilities and you wish to apply for disability benefits from Veterans Affairs or the Social Security Administration you may find it helpful to work with an attorney who truly understands Veterans' Affairs and social security claims.

David Huffman is a lawyer who can empathize with you while zealously advocating your claims. He is a former Marine who was blinded in combat while serving in Vietnam. He knows the difficulties you face because he has successfully fought his way through the system himself during the 1970s.

Early Military Service

David Huffman, a high-school dropout who grew up in a children's home, joined the Marines just a few days after his nineteenth birthday. After a booby trap ended his military career, he finished high school and then decided to attend college. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Science and another in Criminal Justice. He finished his formal education by completing law school in 1981 before being admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar in 1982.

Understanding Adversity

Attorney Huffman's personal experience has given him an understanding of adversity. As a result, he has dedicated his career to helping as many other people as possible who face similar difficulties. Prior to opening his own firm in Pennsylvania, he worked for two years on the national staff of the Vietnam Veteran's Leadership Program (VVLP) which was one of President Ronald Reagan's personal pet projects. David also served on the President's Committee for Employment of the Handicapped and was appointed by Delaware Governor Castle to the Delaware Governor's Accessibility Board. Then in 1984, Mr. Huffman established in Delaware a branch of the Vietnam Veterans of America Service Representative Program, which helped Delaware veterans with their claims for disability benefits.

In 1986, David Huffman started his own general practice in Pennsylvania. While working at his general practice, David handled numerous veterans' benefits cases at no charge. In addition to the large volume of Social Security cases, in general practice Attorney Huffman also handled:

  • Personal injury
  • Workers compensation
  • Family Law
  • Bankruptcy
  • Criminal Law

In 2000, David relocated to Parkersburg, West Virginia and established a new practice now known as Disabilities, Injuries and Law PC. His practice focuses exclusively on VA law and Social Security disability law.

Megan Powell

Attorney Megan Powell has been working with David at Disabilities, Injuries and Law since September 2006. Megan graduated from WVU College of Law in May 2006. Megan obtained her Bachelor's of the Arts in Criminal Justice from Marshall University in May 2003 where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. Megan is admitted to the Bar in West Virginia but can accept Veterans Affairs claimants from anywhere in the United States.
